October 17, 2006

Terra Soft To Provide Yellow Dog Linux v5.0

PlayStation 3 Yellow Dog Linux v5.0 Terra Soft announced today that PlayStation 3 will support their Yellow Dog Linux v5.0 operating system. This goes hand in hand with Ken Kutaragi’s assertion that Sony’s PS3 is a computer, not a gaming console.

From the creators of the saffron canine:

Yellow Dog Linux v5.0, Terra Soft’s next generation Linux operating system for Power will support PLAYSTATION 3, providing an end-user experience far surpassing previous versions. Through an aggressive, rapid co-development project conducted by Carsten Haitzler and the Enlightenment development team, Yellow Dog Linux v5.0, built upon Fedora Core 5, now integrates the next generation “E17″ desktop in order to provide an unprecedented level of function and interface aesthetic. Designed for users of all ages and all levels of experience, Yellow Dog Linux v5.0 is Terra Soft’s most advanced distribution to date.

“We have worked closely with the energetic, determined E17 team to bring this advanced graphical user interface to a state of interface euphoria. It’s not about eye candy and unnecessary special effects, it’s about finding balance between a lean, uncluttered desktop and a personal environment that is both familiar and powerful. E17 is simply the most incredible thing I have ever used –with any operating system,” states Cesar Delgado, System Administrator for Terra Soft.

Owen Stampflee, Lead Software Engineer of Terra Soft Solutions expresses, “From the days of the Commodore 64 to modern overclocked and water cooled home computers, a battle has raged between dedicated game boxes and home computers for highest quality game play. PLAYSTATION 3 provides an industry first exceptional Linux OS experience … and Terra Soft the first Linux OS. I am proud to have played a part in this development.”

Superman Returns To Xbox 360, PS2, DS, GBA

October 14, 2006

Superman Returns to Xbox 360, DS, GBA, PS2Superman Returns has grossed over 400 million dollars worldwide to date, and we’re sure EA wouldn’t mind the same kind of numbers when the video game hits on November 20th for Xbox 360, Xbox, PS2, DS, and GBA.

We were sort of hoping to be able to crazily fly around Metropolis by way of Wiimote, but it looks like our action figures will simply have to do for now.  From EA:

Electronic Arts will ship SUPERMAN RETURNS: THE VIDEOGAME, licensed by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, on November 20. The game, which features storylines from both the Warner Bros. Pictures’ film Superman Returns and more than 60 years of DC Comics’ content, is being developed by EA’s Tiburon Studio in Orlando, Fla., the award-winning studio that develops Madden NFL football, the most popular sports franchise in videogame history. SUPERMAN RETURNS: THE VIDEOGAME is the ultimate open-world super-hero experience and will be released on the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system, as well as current generation platforms.

See firsthand what it is like to be Superman in the first multi-dimensional open world game, where you can go anywhere in the 80 square miles of Metropolis, from the street up into the clouds. Revolutionary new flight mechanics gives the player full command of all your aerial maneuvers. As Superman, the player must protect Metropolis from the most well-known villains in the DC Comics universe and conquer more than 100 missions that only Superman can overcome including saving Metropolis and its citizens from destruction, battling enemies and saving the planet from natural disasters. Make split-second decisions about which superpowers and moves are best suited to defeat the multitude of enemies. The game will feature all the classic superpowers, but learning to master all of them during flight and combat will take work – even for Superman.

SUPERMAN RETURNS: THE VIDEOGAME ships November 20 and will be released on the Xbox 360, the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, Xbox®, Nintendo DS™. The version shipping for the Game Boy® Advance is titled, SUPERMAN RETURNS: FORTRESS OF SOLITUDETM. The game is rated “T” (Teen) by the ESRB for the PlayStation 2 console, Xbox and Xbox 360. It is rated “E” (Everyone) by the ESRB for the Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance.
