Nintendo Wii Nets Latest Prince Of Persia
December 19, 2006
It goes without saying that a console isn’t a console without a Prince Of Persia title. And Wii is the gaming system of the season, so PoP is on the way for March, 2007.
From Ubi:
Today Ubisoft, one of the world’s largest video game publishers, announced Prince of Persia Rival Swords will ship March 2007 for the Wii. Based on last year’s highly successful Prince of Persia The Two Thrones, the game takes advantage of the revolutionary Wii remote and Nunchuck. Players will be able to clash swords with enemies, execute speed kills and perform the Prince’s well-known acrobatic moves such as running on walls. Prince of Persia Rival Swords creates an epic experience by combining two playable characters in a masterly balanced gameplay, with the perfect mix of combat, platforming, puzzles and a compelling storyline.
The Prince of Persia makes his way home to Babylon, bearing with him Kaileena, the enigmatic Empress of Time, and unspeakable scars from the Island of Time. But instead of the peace he longs for, he finds his kingdom ravaged by war and Kaileena the target of a brutal plot. When she is kidnapped, the Prince tracks her to the Palace – only to see her murdered by a powerful enemy. Her death unleashes the Sands of Time, which strike the Prince and threaten to destroy everything he holds dear. Cast to the streets, hunted as a fugitive, the Prince soon discovers that the Sands have tainted him, too. They have given rise to a deadly Dark Prince, whose spirit gradually possesses him.
Game features include:
Play and master two distinct characters: Wield the powers and weapons of two master warriors with different combat styles, attitudes and histories. Choose your way to kill: Master the expanded Free-Form Fighting system to destroy enemies in your own style, strangle enemies from afar with the deadly Daggertail or use a new stealth art to inflict surprise decapitations – the choice is yours.
Battle freely through Babylon: Dominate enemies on the perilous rooftops, dodge through chaotic streets and ambush pursuers in dark underground passageways. Immerse yourself in a dramatic story: Experience unparalleled depth in storytelling as you fight your way through a twisting tale filled with adrenaline, tension and discovery.
Manipulate time to surprise enemies: Execute powerful attacks against entire armies by slowing down or rewinding time, or surprise them by using some all-new Sands of Time powers. Experience a masterful blend of gameplay: True to the Prince of Persia franchise, the game provides a variety of action combat, agility and story-driven puzzles – all masterfully blended into a rich gaming experience.
Nintendo Wii Sports Bowling The Masses Over
December 11, 2006
After only being out for a short period of time, we can’t possibly imagine a world that doesn’t have Wii Sports in it. After the failed Power Glove of old, Nintendo Wii has truly turned it all around with a truly innovative controller.
Some people say that the new console is dangerous, causing people to fling their Wiimote into onlookers or electronics. We say this is nonsense. It’s fabulous that there’s finally a gaming system that’s so immersive, it causes some to forget they’re only playing a game. Look for a review from us shortly, and in the meantime, here’s the official description from the Big N:
Wii Sports offers five distinct sports experiences, each using the Wii Remote to provide a natural, intuitive and realistic feel. Players can use their own Mii caricatures in the game and play them against their friends’ Miis for a more personalized experience. As players improve, their Miis’ skill levels will increase, so that they can see exactly how much better they’ve become.
Tennis: Players grab the Wii Remote like a racket and swing – the game registers forehands, backhands, volleys, lobs, slices, spin and power depending on how fast the user swings and at what angle. Don’t worry about moving around the court to get to the ball – the game automatically moves players into position.
Baseball: Players grip the Wii Remote like a bat and swat fastballs out of the park, or fire a fastball over the plate with a flick of their wrist. Timing and bat speed will make all the difference between going yard and whiffing, so keep an eye on the ball and swing for the fences. In the two-player game, one player pitches and the other bats – all fielding and running is automatic, so that players can focus on the action.
Golf: Step up to the tee, hold the Wii Remote like a golf club and swing naturally to smack the ball onto the green. The harder players swing the club, the farther the ball will fly. Be careful, though – if players swing too hard, their ball will fly out of control, so they should be sure to take some practice swings before going for the pin. After reaching the green, line up putts carefully, practice the stroke and try to hole out.
Bowling: Players raise the Wii Remote in their hand just like a bowling ball, and then swing their arms to roll the ball. The speed of the swing and the angle at which they release the ball affects the ball’s spin, so it will take some practice to master control over the ball and knock down the pins.
Boxing: Using the Nunchuk controller as one glove and the Wii Remote as the other, players dodge, weave and punch their opponents. Players hold their hands high to guard their faces or low to block their torsos. They punch high to hit their opponents’ faces or low to get under their guard for a body blow. Swing both arms left or right to sidestep oncoming blows and move into position for a devastating knockout.
New Nintendo Wii Supply At Amazon
December 9, 2006
Amazon can’t keep its Wii in check
Let’s face it: when it comes to Wii, Amazon giveth and Amazon taketh away. Last time they had pre-orders available, the entire inventory was snapped up within 10 minutes. But at the moment, they’re back in the giveth game, with more units in stock than had been previously expected.
In fact, we received an e-mail from the Amazon giving notice about the new Nintendo Wii inventory. Best to get while the getting is good.
Dear Nintendo fan: Great news! We’ve managed to get our hands on some more Wii consoles and will be putting them on sale between 3pm and 4pm today (Friday, December 8th). Last time we sold out in 7 minutes and we expect this batch to go even more quickly. Nintendo sold 600,000 consoles in just 8 days in the US, so you can bet that the Nintendo Wii is THE must-have item of 2006. The wait is almost over! See the launch line-up here. Sincerely, Amazon.co.uk Video Games Team.
Update that we’ve been expecting: “We’ve just sold out of our launch day allocation of Nintendo Wii consoles. Sign up to be notified when we have more stock available.” Sigh. This would be filed in the taketh away department.
