Spaced Remake: Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright Are Not On Board

October 30, 2007

Spaced Remake Simon Pegg Edward Wright Jessica Stevenson HynesThe news that we’ve been dreading for years has been made official today – Spaced is going to remade as an American sitcom.

The Channel 4 show, which ran between 1999-2001, was directed by Edgar Wright and was written by and starred Simon Pegg and Jessica Stevenson (now Jessica Hynes).  Naturally, it also starred Pegg’s partner-in-crime Nick Frost.  The series happened to be one of the best comedies to ever hit the small screen.

And now it’s going to America…to be co-produced by McG, of all people.

To add insult to injury, it appears none of the creative team from the original have even been contacted about having a hand in the abomination.

“The interesting part of that is, no-one has been in touch with me at all. Haven’t deigned to get in contact. So my involvement is indeed very unclear,” lamented Wright on his MySpace blog.

“P.S. I can confirm too, that Simon was never contacted either. I don’t really want to get involved at all, but it infuriates me that they would a) never bother to get in touch but still b) splash me and Simon’s names all over the trade announcements and infer that we’re involved in the same way Ricky & Steve were with The Office,” he added.

A dark day, indeed.

US Navy Accidentally Drops ‘Training Bomb’

October 30, 2007

Navy Training Bomb Virginia BeachAn aircraft flying a training mission for the US Navy accidentally dropped what is being referred to as a “training bomb” while flying over Virginia Beach, Virginia.

The plane was coming back to Oceana Naval Air Station when the payload was released.

Nobody was harmed during the event and the only material damage appears to be superficial damage to a wall next to a warehouse which is being described as having some “chipped paint”.

USA Today is reporting that according to Lt. Cmdr. Dave Nunnally, the incident occurred at about 12:15 p.m on Tuesday.

The bomb was not live; the device was about a foot and a half long but was not fitted with explosives.  Instead, it was armed with a “smoke charge” that would indicate where the device had been dropped.

The Flash Movie Gets A New Director

October 29, 2007

The Flash movie is back onShawn Levy is out and David Dobkin is in as director for the upcoming ‘The Flash’ movie.

Dobkin, who has been on a Vince Vaughn streak of late, having directed both The Wedding Crashers and the upcoming Fred Claus, replaced Levy who had left for reasons that have yet to be disclosed.  We’re relatively confident it had nothing to do with gaining weight or growing a beard

The solo flick will exist in the same universe as the upcoming Justice League Of America flick and is considered to be a direct spinoff, Dobkin told MTV.

So, will it be the Barry Allen or the Wally West putting on the big red suit with the lightning bolt?  Apparently it will be Wally West, which makes sense considering that the rumors have been that the JLA movie opens with the funeral of the aforementioned Mr. Allen.

No casting decisions have been made yet, but the tagline of the flick will be “You can’t outrun yourself.”

Cute.
