January 22, 2008
According to the New York Police Department, actor Heath Ledger has been found dead in an apartment building.
Mr. Ledger was discovered by a housekeeper and a masseuse who had been let in for an appointment. The Australian actor was found unconscious by the duo, who tried to shake him but did not receive any sort of response.
The authorities were called in; the police say do not suspect foul play. The New York Times is reporting that pills were found near his body.
Ledger was a respected actor whose breakout role was in 1999’s 10 Things I Hate About You. He received an Oscar nomination for his work in 2005’s Brokeback Mountain.
He had recently completed shooting in his largest role to date as the Joker in The Dark Knight, scheduled for release this summer.
Marion Cotillard: Ellen Page In Juno Was ‘Amazing’
January 22, 2008
Both La Vie En Rose’s Marion Cotillard and Juno’s Ellen Page received the news today that they were both nominated for a Best Actress Academy Award.
It was a first for both of the talented thespians.
“I couldn’t believe this, to be amongst these incredible beautiful stunning actresses I admire so much,” exclaimed Ms. Cotillard to People.
“I just discovered Ellen Page. I saw Juno a few weeks ago. I think she’s amazing, so to be with those actresses is something really unbelievable and special.”
In an analogy that could be lost somewhat in translation, the La Vie En Rose star explained that “it’s as if I had swallowed some fireworks or something like this. My friends and my family in Paris, they are so happy.”
If Page wins the Oscar on February 24, she will be the youngest winner ever for Best Actress. Marlee Matlin is currently the youngest at 21 years old, but the Juno star is only 20 and has her beat by a few months.
The Streets Heart Johnny Depp In Sweeney Todd
January 20, 2008
Tim Burton’s Sweeney Todd, starring Johnny Depp & Helena Bonham Carter, is getting just about as much universal acclaim as a movie can get…especially for a musical.
Count The Streets’ Mike Skinner among the admirers of the film, which is expected to garner a few nominations when the Oscar noms are announced this Tuesday.
“Every single line of the songs roll off Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham’s tongues in the way I struggle to do night after day after morning…Every time Johnny Depp ended a stanza with the sharp snap of a clipped trochee I would smile at the huge screen,” gushed Skinner on his blog.
And if you haven’t seen the movie by now, you would be making Skinner quite happy by going as soon as humanly possible.
“I urge you to go see Sweeney Todd. You won’t be dissatisfied,” he recommended.
