Britain Braces For Impending Storm
March 9, 2008
According to multiple warnings from British authorities, the harshest weather of the year could hit within hours.
People are warned to stay indoors, to steer clear of the coastal areas, and to not get behind the wheel except in an extreme emergency.
The Environment Agency has issued six severe flood warnings in all, and there are also predictions which include gale-force winds, severe downpours, large waves, sleet, and possible snow.
“The strong winds will combine with spring high tides to significantly elevate the water levels along the coast which is likely to cause some flooding,” said David Rooke, head of flood risk management at the Environment Agency.
Both Heathrow and Gatrick airports are warning potential travellers to expect cancellations and delays.
